In Canada, web sites are not liable for the content of sites to which they link
(Crookes v. Newton, 2011 SCC 47).
They are an important component of my site, that allow you to verify my sources and to read further.
Proposed legislation in the USA would make me liable because ICANN controls Canadian addresses and ICANN is located in the USA. If this aspect of SOPA becomes law, I will have no option but to remove all links to external sites from my site, despite the fact I and my site are Canadian. If you live in the USA and find my site useful, please tell your representatives that you oppose SOPA. |
